Psychometrician

Role: Psychometrician

SUMMARY:   Psychometricians are key contributors for all tasks from test construction through reporting of scores. These individuals are responsible for supporting activities such as item calibration, forms construction, scaling and equating, and technical documentation, or completing these tasks under the guidance of senior members of the Assessment Design and Psychometric team. Psychometricians may work very closely with both internal and external clients to fulfill needs of test design and development.

The Assessment Design and Psychometrics (ADP) team consists of assessment specialists, psychometricians, statistical analysts, and technical writing/editing experts. Work is divided by assessment type. Experts work primarily with English language learner (ELL), alternate, and early childhood assessments or with 3–8, end-of-course, and authored innovative assessment solutions. While this is how the department is divided, team member’s work together across assessment types to provide expertise and support on projects as needed or directed. Psychometricians report to the Vice President of Assessment Design and Psychometrics.

Psychometricians are knowledge leaders on the ADP team and within Questar. As such, Psychometricians are expected to provide guidance and direction on projects, initiate conversations related to innovation and flexibility with processes, and work closely with all Questar teams to meet the quality and service expected of our clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate with ADP members regarding project needs and deliverables.
  • Maintain schedules.
  • Develop analysis and other psychometric plans.
  • Support standard setting workshops.
  • Statistically develop test forms.
  • Maintain project-specific documentation (e.g., project overview and equating specifications).
  • Independent equating.
  • Publish and present on measurement and statistical topics as possible.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ph.D. in educational statistics, measurement, psychometrics, or related field

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • N/A

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in educational assessment.
  • Experience using statistical software such as SPSS or SAS and IRT software such as WINSTEPS or PARSCALE.
  • Understanding of item calibration, score equating, and item analysis using both classical and IRT methods.
